Problems Lawn Top Dressing Solves

Common soil challenges addressed by our formula.

Compacted Clay Soils

Hard-pack clay repels water and restricts root development. Lawn Top Dressing improves soil permeability, allowing water to infiltrate and roots to penetrate. Use with lawn aeration for deeper penetration.

Sandy Soils That Won't Hold Water

Sandy ground lets moisture and nutrients drain away. Biochar's microscopic pores and compost's organic matter capture and hold water in the root zone where plants can use it.

Thin, Struggling Turf

Lawns fail when soil can't support healthy root systems. Lawn Top Dressing rebuilds soil structure and biology, giving roots room to develop and access to the water, oxygen, and nutrients they need.

High Fertilizer Costs

Chemical fertilizers wash away, requiring repeated applications and contributing to algae blooms. Lawn Top Dressing holds nutrients in place, reducing both costs and environmental impact.

Labor-Intensive Bulk Top Dressing

Bulk compost requires dump trucks, manual distribution, and careful raking to avoid smothering grass. Lawn Top Dressing pellets apply quickly with a spreader and settle into the thatch layer naturally.

Uncertain Compost Quality

Untested compost may contain weed seeds, pathogens, or contaminants. Lawn Top Dressing uses only STA-certified compost that meets rigorous USCC standards for safety and quality.

How to Apply Lawn Top Dressing

Three simple steps to better soil.

1

Aerate the Lawn

Core aeration before application allows deeper penetration into compacted soils, especially clay.

2

Spread Pellets

Apply using a broadcast spreader. Distribute evenly across the lawn surface at 1 cu ft per 500 sq ft.

3

Overseed & Water

If overseeding, apply seed after pellets. Water thoroughly to begin pellet breakdown and incorporation into soil.

Application Rates

Initial Application

Full coverage rate (1 cu ft per 500 sq ft)

Maintenance

Lighter annual treatments until optimal fertility

Best Timing: Apply in spring or fall when grass is actively growing and can recover quickly from aeration.
